Design and implementation of a remote sensing unit for mobile phones using Bluetooth
Today the mobile devices such as cell phones get more and more sensing build into them. This sensing includes for example GPS and accelerometers. Although this development is fast, there is a lack of remote sensing devices that has not been fulfilled. That is, to be able to run and develop applications for the future (when these devices are integrated in the phone) and to be able to implement functions that require separated sensing, there is a need to develop remote sensing units.
The thesis work
This thesis work is to design and develop a specific remote sensing devices that communicates the sensor data to a mobile device via Bluetooth. The following is a list of the top level tasks:
•Investigate the availability of remote sensing devices that are affordable for end users
•Integration and interfacing between some simple Bluetooth breakout (e.g. http://www.sparkfun.com) and a sensing device such as http://invensense.com/mems/gyro/imu3000.html with I2C interface. An intermediate interface is probably necessary.
•Programming this device to deliver continuous sensing information over Bluetooth to a mobile phone.
•Describe in detail lessons learned in this integration as well as guidelines for integration with other sensing devices.
•Write the final report
