Computer-aided design of self-assembled DNA nanostructures

Do you like 3D modeling in Maya and programming in Python, but want to make something cooler than video-games?

What about designing DNA nanomachines? Join our lab and you will be able to use your computer science skills to make important contributions to the emerging field of DNA-nanotechnology.

We are interested in building a compiler for self-assembling DNA nanostructures based on Autodesk Maya, PyMEL and Python. The idea is to build a user friendly interface in Maya that will allow users to manipulate 3D-models of DNA nanostructures and then use the compiler to calculate the exact DNA sequences that will be needed for the experiments.

Applicants should have basic knowledge of Python programming, and preferably some experience with 3D modeling software. Specific experience with Autodesk Maya and MEL or PyMEL is not necessary but will be beneficial.

Successful applicants will also be given an opportunity to try the experimental side of our research, but only if they so wish: The experiments we are performing includes pipetting, gel-electrophoresis, growing bacteria, folding the nanostructures in a thermal cycler and transmission electron microscopy for looking at the results.
