Mobile Interaction for Process Automation Domain
The current state-of-the-art mobile devices are equipped with greater processing power and enhanced interaction technologies than provided for just a few years ago. In addition, seen from ABB's perspective use of contextual information, such as location and tilt, introduces new opportunities for automation systems.
Mobile and tablet devices also provide a new way of working for operators: they can be mobile while completing their work tasks. This helps the operators to be more effective in their work and might also make the work more fun and interesting.
The goal of the master thesis is to provide a mobile solution for operators to make them more effective at their work tasks. Based on a user study the thesis will investigate how devices like iPhone or Android-based smart phones can be applied to open up new possibilities for automation systems. The thesis work will be a part of a user-centered design process, where the focus is on building solutions for real user needs.
Based on user studies and existing mobile interaction technologies, develop a concept that makes operators more effective in their work.
Implement a prototype for a mobile device (for example, iPhone or an Android device) to demonstrate how the concept would work in practice.
Evaluate the prototype and conclude the user experience of the concept.
