Growth of carbon nanofibers for microelectronic applications

At Smoltek AB a position is now open for a diploma thesis on growth of nanofibers.

Background:
Carbon nanotubes and nanofibers have emerged as the most promising new nanoscale material for microelectronics applications due to their electric current carrying capabilities and their good thermal conductivity. We have a patent pending technology platform for growing carbon nanofibers with unprecedented yield. Growth of nanostructures are carried out in an in-house built plasma-enhanced chemical-vapor-deposition system (PECVD). Scanning electron microscope (SEM) will be used as the primary tool for characterization of the resulting vertical nanofiber structures.

Goal of the project:
Investigate the temperature dependence of the growth mechanism, and enhance the nanofiber growth conditions even more, if possible. The project will start with a literature survey.

The result should be presented in a report and in a seminar.

The company:
Founded in 2006, SMOLTEK is developing a unique technology platform on how to integrate carbon nanofibers into semiconductor industry products, such as microprocessors. The technology is based on research from Chalmers University of Technology and Göteborg University.
