Rapid prototyping of catalysts for growth of nanostructures
Carbon nanotubes and nanofibers have emerged as the most promising new nanoscale material for microelectronics applications due to their electric current carrying capabilities and their good thermal conductivity. We have a patent pending technology platform for growing carbon nanofibers with unprecedented yield. Growth of nanostructures are carried out in an in-house built plasma-enhanced chemical-vapor-deposition system (PECVD). Catalyst particles are used to define the location and the dimension of the grown structures. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) will be used as the primary tool for characterization of the resulting vertical nanofiber structures.
Goal of the project:
Develop a technique for rapid prototyping of catalysts of different kinds to facilitate the growth of nanostructures. The project will start with a literature survey.
The result should be presented in a report and in a seminar.
Founded in 2006, SMOLTEK is developing a unique technology platform on how to integrate carbon nanofibers into semiconductor industry products, such as microprocessors. The technology is based on research from Chalmers University of Technology and Göteborg University.
