Coherent 100 Gb/s optical communications link

OBS! ANSÖKNINGSTIDEN FÖR DETTA EXJOBB HAR LÖPT UT.
This PhD project deals with the investigation of coherently detected, DQPSK systems. The goal of the project is the investigation, conception and assessment of overall performance of a DQPSK coherent receiver, employing digital signal (DSP) processing algorithms for phase noise estimation and compensation. The project will also consider the incorporation of DSP for compensation of transmission impairments due to chromatic dispersion, polarization mode dispersion, and optical filtering cascading. At the end of the project, the aim is to layout the benefits of coherent detection receivers for DQPSK optical transmission links with special emphasis on transmission impairments.
The project is a joint research effort between the Systems Competence Area at DTU and Tellabs Denmark within the framework of the Photonics Academy of Denmark. Therefore, the current PhD project entails rich possibilities for cross-disciplinary work, especially covering the path from system specifications, theoretical limits, and implementation issues in realistic optical networking scenarios in cooperation with Tellabs.
