Development of computational software for studies of nanoparticle properties

We are looking for a few students capable of writing computational software in C++. You will work as a team, developing a software tool set for early stage screening of nanoparticle conformations and dynamics. This includes implementing a simplified force field integrator, search algorithms for high dimensionality data sets, and various analysis methods.

Preliminary schedule is set for the 20 week duration of August through December 2006. However, duration and dates are flexible within the period of mid June 2006 to late April 2007.

The majority of the development will be conducted remotely, using collaborative tools. You should also be open to short term visits to the CERMAV laboratory in Grenoble, located in the Rhône-Alpes region of southern France. The official language will be English, and knowledge of French is not a requirement.

The project will be auxiliary to the “GlycoGold” EU project, which brings together over 10 collaborative partners from academia and industry throughout Europe. The goal is to develop a technology base for using complex nanoparticles in medical, biochemical, and industrial applications.

Students must have a solid background in physics and computing science. Experience in some of the following areas is preferred: Real world software development, numerical analysis, statistical physics, physical chemistry, complex systems theory, biochemistry, and quantum mechanics.
