CORBA/JAVA xDSL-system interface
Within the field of Operations Support Systems, TietoEnator Telecom Operators AB develops and maintains several service support systems, handling xDSL access technology. Among other functionalities, these systems are necessary for a Service Providers/Network Operator to deliver xDSL access to the end-customer. Because of the success of xDSL access technology, equipment providers have tuned up new product releases based on xDSL, enhancing the speed and lowering the prices by managing Gigabit Ethernet as carrier technology instead of the traditional ATM Transport. Subsequently, these products have made so called triple-play easier to implement and more flexible to manage, triggering a new market with large growth capabilities. Clearly, the competition among service providers/network operators intensifies as they all are striving to deliver these services faster and with better quality than the competitors, grasping a good market share. As a result, the system integrators¿ implementations of different support systems handling such services must as well fulfil fast service delivery and accurate service provisioning as an adequate quality of service.
TietoEnator Telecom Operators AB launches this thesis project to gain more knowledge about the possibilities of managing xDLS-vendor platforms. The thesis students task will be, to develop an interface for a vendor specific xDSL-node to handle end-to-end configuration of a xDSL customer. The interface will be development in a CORBA/Java environment.
The result should be a prototype, able of provisioning xDSL customers via the xDSL vendor¿s northbound CORBA interface. The prototype should also be able to obtain different parameters from the xDSL nodes (via the CORBA interface).
Civilingenjör/Master of Science student majoring in Computer Science/Information Systems/ Internetworking /Communication networks
Good knowledge of xDSL/Gigabit Ethernet /ATM transport and computer and telecommunication networks in general. The ideal candidate should have:
¿Very good working knowledge of network and object oriented programming/development
¿Experience and a very good understanding of distributed systems
¿Experience and a very good working knowledge of Java, JSP and distributed java programming (CORBA)
This thesis project proposal demands the candidate to have a very high ability of working independently. Further it¿s important that the candidate have a structured work approach, familiar to project work and deadlines.
