Risks of salinisation in soil when using urine as a fertilizer in an arid climate ¿ a comparative study between two (or three) West African Countries

OBS! ANSÖKNINGSTIDEN FÖR DETTA EXJOBB HAR LÖPT UT.
Urine contains plant nutrients in the form of dissolved salts. One
concern raised in relation to the use of urine as a fertilizer in arid
climates is the risk of negative effects on salinisation in soil. Small
studies have been carried out on conductivity in soil after application
of urine to barley in pot trials, only published in Swedish and
performed on Swedish soils. The proposed MFS project will
investigate the risks of salinisation in soil when using urine as a
fertilizer in the West African context.

This study is suggested to be done as Masters thesis (exjobb) in combination with Minor Field study. The cooperating partner for the field work is CREPA (Centre Régional d¿Eau Potable et Assainissement) with HQ in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and field work is suggested in Burkina Faso, Mali, and/or Togo.

For this study we are looking for one or two french speaking student in technology, soil sciences or any similar relevant field.
