Implementation of BIST on a FPGA-based Radio Test Platform

Background
Acreo/Wavebreaker has developed a generic test platform for evaluation end development of RF-transceivers. (See picture) This platform is based on a cluster of nine high performance FPGA:s and a total of more than 1000 internal interconnects. Due to the high complexity there is an immediate need to be able to test the platform and pinpoint any possible problems at an early stage.

Assignment
The project aims at doing full implementation of a Built in Self-Test functionality on the platform. This includes specification, programming, documentation and verification. The assignment can be divided into four different steps:

1. Programming the FPGA bank from a JTAG connector with a BIST algorithm. The result OK/NOT OK could be indicated on LED¿s.
2. A register is updated to indicate were the fault is located. Could be indicated on LED¿s or suitable docking card.
3. The BIST is generated from software and the fault vectors are displayed on the screen and in a log file.
4. The BIST also makes an external IO test requiring additional docking cards.


Time
The project is planned to start week 45 and last for at least 4 months.

Place
The project will be carried out at the Acreo premises at Campus Norrköping.

Requirements
We believe a suitable background is Y, D, E or similar. Special interest or experience in FPGA and/or BIST is of course valuable.
