Nanophysics: Optical absorption in semiconductor quantum wire waveguide

OBS! ANSÖKNINGSTIDEN FÖR DETTA EXJOBB HAR LÖPT UT.
For a student at Applied Physics (Teknisk Fysik) or equivalent, with
interests in optics, quantum and semiconductor physics,
optoelectronics, etc, there is a possibility to make a diploma work at
the EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. The
project consists of investigating the optical absorption behavior in so
called quantum wires incorporated in sub-micron sized optical
semiconductor waveguides. These kinds of structures are interesting for
future optical communication based on nanotechnology, in this case as
an electro-optical modulator. The lab is specialized on experimental
physics on III-V semiconductor nanostructures, especially quantum wires
and quantum dots. The group is international and well equipped with
long experience of nanophysics. The official language at the lab is
English.

The task gives insight to various fields related to quantum physics,
optics, semiconductor physics, etc, both experimentally and
theoretically. We are looking for a motivated and independent diploma
student who is interested in new environments and to make international
contacts in physics.

The project has a joint project with Linköpings Tekniska Högskola, but
students from other sites are also welcome.
