Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) A one year diploma work (master student) in collaboration with YKI, Institute for Surface Chemistry and Stockholm University

OBS! ANSÖKNINGSTIDEN FÖR DETTA EXJOBB HAR LÖPT UT.
Background
YKI (Institute for Surface Chemistry) is a leading research institute in surface chemistry. In collaboration with the Berzelii Center EXSELENT on Porous Materials at Stockholm University, Sweden, we are now seeking for a master student in the area of development of novel carrier materials for controlled release applications. The student will be supervised by Dr. Anwar Ahniyaz (YKI scientist) and Prof. Xiaodong Zou (Stockholm University) and have an opportunity to work in parallel in two strong R&I environments, CODIRECT as well as EXSELENT.

Project description
The project involves synthesis and characterization of bio-friendly Metal-organic Frameworks (MOFs) as well their applications in controlled release. The student will have an access the research facilities of both YKI and Stockholm University and have an opportunity to combine basic science with application driven research and will be eligible for 60 Hp on material chemistry defend his/her master’s degree at Stockholm University.

CODIRECT is an Institute Excellence Centre (IEC) hosted by YKI. The aim of CODIRECT is to create a Centre of Excellence within the strategic area of controlled delivery and release, recognized for both scientific excellence and industrial importance. The Centre provides a forum where industry and academia join the institute to tackle fundamental issues and specific industrial problems within the controlled delivery and release field. CODIRECT is sponsored by the Swedish funding agencies; the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems (VINNOVA), the Knowledge Foundation (KK-stiftelsen) and the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) as well as international industries such as Kraft Foods, AkzoNobel, Colgate-Palmolive and Procter & Gamble.

EXSELENT is hosted by Stockholm University. The Berzelii Center EXSELENT on Porous Materials is a joint initiative to promote excellent, multidisciplinary and innovative research on porous materials. The centre will generate new ideas for designing and synthesizing porous materials tailed for different applications. The current research is focused on heterogeneous catalysis, gas separation and storage, biomaterials, new porous materials and characterization. The consortium currently consists of 60 researchers from Stockholm University, the Institute for Surface Chemistry (YKI), and industrial partners AstraZeneca, Nobel Biocare and OrganoClick. Berzelii Center EXSELENT is a ten-year program supported by the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems (VINNOVA) and the Swedish Research Council (VR). EXSELENT abbreviates EXtremely SELective and ENanTio-selective nanoporous materials for controlled sorption and catalysis.

Practical information
Requirements: Students with a material chemistry background are welcome to apply.
Starting date: The project starts as soon as the position is filled.
Duration: One year.
