Computational Neuroeconomics

OBS! ANSÖKNINGSTIDEN FÖR DETTA EXJOBB HAR LÖPT UT.
In this project, we are exploring computational models of the brain, in the field of neuroeconomics. This is an emerging and exciting new field in which we build on the latest results in neuroscience (in particular computational neuroscience) to understand individual behavior that are relevant in the study of Economics. The focus of the proposed project is to explore and test the dual self hypothesis in economics with recently developed methods in neuroscience. This amounts to framing the hypothesis as a ‘dual circuits hypothesis’ in the context of computational neuroscience. However, in a parallel distributed (computational neural network) context, the dual circuits are not so clear-cut. We believe that it is an interesting in this master thesis project to use the existing models in computational (cognitive) neuroscience and test the recently dual-self hypothesis as proposed in behavioral economics.

You should have a solid background in mathematical modeling using computational techniques. Engineering Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and similar background is adequate. The project involves using existing simple computers models of the brain, and you need to be proficient in using computer (simulation) models. Some programming will be required, and you need to read and understand C++, but not necessarily programming in that language. Furthermore you should be interested in human decision making and cognition. Although no formal training or courses are required in these fields, courses in Economics or Game Theory would be useful.
