Internship at Mantex, Diploma thesis- Mathematic models for calibration of X-ray based biomass analyzer

Mantex use its patented photon absorption technology to provide multi purpose biomaterial scanners for use in both laboratory and operational control in processing industries like bio power, bio fuel, paper and pulp, saw mills and recycling centers.
Based on the analysis results provided by the Mantex scanners, customers have the opportunity to achieve significant improvements in biomaterial and machine utilization as well as energy optimization and reduction of emissions.

X-ray based industrial biomass analyzers are highly affected by fluctuations in temperature, material properties, geometries and much more. The measurement system collects a high amount of data that includes information regarding not only the material to be analyzed, but also regarding the fluctuating measurement conditions.

The diploma thesis aims to develop improved methods and algorithms for extraction of calibrated measurement parameters and for correction for fluctuating measurement conditions. We believe that a range of numerical methods such as e.g. multivariate analysis, principal component analysis and artificial neural network algorithms could be interesting to investigate. Therefore, we believe that the thesis worker should have knowledge and interest within the field of numerical analysis.
