Thesis project: Analyze laws and standards for product development and product requirements
IKEA of Sweden AB, Älmhult
The foundation of all product development is the idea that even with a thin wallet people should still be able to create a beautiful home with functional, safe and healthy products. A team of co-workers with different competencies develop products in order to find the right combination of design, function and quality – all to the lowest price possible.
As Free Range, we will serve more countries by creating good, locally relevant products and thereby strengthen and complement the total offer.
Free Range will constantly challenge our work processes in order to increase speed, flexibility and the final end result.
Product requirements can vary from one retail market to another, depending on material and product type. To be able to create relevant product requirements per business initiatives there is a need to distinguish differences of laws and regulations based on material and product type per sales market.
By having relevant requirements on products, we will gain speed, avoid confusion, and also unnecessary testing and connected costs.
We are now looking for a student helping us to analyze the differences of product requirements in existing IKEA retail markets based on material and product type. Then create a guide for Free Range purchasing organization, to enable saleable and compliant products for different markets. Below areas needs to be investigated and included in the report:
• Analyze existing laws and standards database
• Make updates and eliminate unnecessary information when necessary
• Create a simple guide to support purchasing organization
