Dynamic range processing
The dynamic range of audio signals might sometimes not be adequate for the application at hand, i.e. the signals might be too loud or too weak. In this task the objective is to implement an automatic gain control algorithm that processes a speech signal in order to make weak signals louder and loud signals weaker.
When developing audio systems it is crucial to have good methods for testing, i.e. the testing should be extensive yet easy to conduct. In this task the mission is to develop a test system for audio products, such as conference phones, to be used in development as well as in production.
Sound level meter
When assessing sounds and noise a sound level meter is often used. In this task the objective is to implement algorithms that perform advanced sound level measurements, specially algorithms that make use of multi-microphone inputs in order to make more correct assessments .
In several applications it is required to estimate the impulse response of an unknown system, e.g. the impulse response of a loudspeaker. In this task the objective is to implement algorithms for system identification based on the MLS-technique.
When assessing voices different speech parameters needs to be evaluated, such for example speech activity or the pitch of the speech signal. In this task the objective is to use one or several sensors, to determine qualitative speech parameters. The task is somewhat related to medical engineering.
