Development of security token services for Grids
The Center for Parallel Computers (PDC) operates leading-edge, high-performance computers as easily accessible national resources. These resources are primarily available for Swedish academic research and education.
Grid computing is a form of distributed computing that involves coordinating and sharing computing, application, data, storage, or network resources across dynamic and geographically dispersed organizations.
Grids provide mechanisms for the creation and management of large numbers of dynamic virtual organizations (VOs), spanning multiple heterogeneous organizations with different underlying security mechanisms. In a Grid, users or applications need access to resources that belong to different organizations. However, in such a dynamic and heterogeneous environment, requester of resources need to be authenticated and authorized before accessing resources. Security tokens are the means which can be used for authentication and authorization. However, there are several challenging issues which make it difficult to provide the requesters of resources with required security credentials to access different resources provided by different organizations running diverse security mechanisms.
In this project we develop a framework in which requesters can be provided with essential and appropriate set of security tokens for accessing Grid resources in a secure and dynamic fashion.
