Development and Evaluation of a Memory Consistency and Cache Coherence Protocol for the Nocsim NoC Simulator

OBS! ANSÖKNINGSTIDEN FÖR DETTA EXJOBB HAR LÖPT UT.
The Nostrum Network-on-Chip (NoC) defines services provided by Network Interface components (NI) and by Resource Network Interface components (RNI). While the NI offers basic network services and is resource independent, the RNI connects directly to the resource which can be a processor core, a DSP, a memory or a local bus cluster. Thus, it has to be adapted to the specific resource type.
Nocsim is a Nostrum simulator written in Haskell and based on the ForSyDe library. It models Nostrum’s basic services as defined by the Nostrum Platform Definition. In a distributed, multi-processor system cache coherency and memory consistency are problematic issues. The objective is to provide an intuitive and efficient programming model to application engineers. Support for this has to be integrated into the network, the network interfaces and the memory modules.
In this project a memory model, a cache model and a Resource-Network-Interface (RNI) model shall be developed that supports a specific solution to cache coherence and memory consistency problem that forbids caching of shared data but allows for exclusive access to shared,
distributed data.
The project is defined for one person and 20 weeks.
