Real-Time Radar Control and Data Acquisition using USB 2.0 Interface
Acreo AB has developed a radar demonstrator suitable for automotive applications. The next generation of this radar includes extra functionality requiring real-time re-programming of the radar during operation. There is also a need for a very fast serial interface transmitting radar output data to a PC, where the final data analysis is made. A suitable candidate for this interface is the USB 2.0 standard; USB 2.0 is a serial interface with a theoretical transfer rate of 480Mbit/sec
The task is to build a radar system consisting of an analog radar core, a micro-controller and a USB 2.0 interface. The radar data shall be imported to LabView and a graphical user inter-
face, GUI, shall also be developed. This requires micro-controller programming, adaptation of the firmware supplied by the USB manufacturer, and LabView programming for the GUI. Fast adaptation to new project applications put high demands on the system architecture as well as on the system documentation.
Time plan and Location
The thesis work as defined above is scheduled for 10 weeks and starts as soon as a suitable candidate is found. If however a candidate with a broad interest in analog design is found, the thesis work can be expanded to 20 weeks. The thesis work will be carried out at Acreo AB in Norrköping.
