Thesis work: 1:500 scale test of the SeaTwirl technology.
wind energy. SeaTwirl is using water as bearings
and can therefore function as a very large flywheel.
The main advantages of the SeaTwirl are simplicity,
the advantage of using sheep materials and the
energy storage capacity. SeaTwirl therefore has the
potential to stand as a common provider of energy
and short time energy storage in a future
sustainable society. SeaTwirl is developed by the
small company Ehrnberg Solutions AB. The
company will during spring 2011 build and test a
SeaTwirl 1:50 prototype and incorporate results
from the tests in 1:500 scale. The 1:50 prototype will
have a height of about 10m and sweep area of

The student/s is to perform theoretical calculations
and verify it with experimental tests. Special focus is
on the SeaTwirl energy storage capacity and energy
production. Friction will in combination whit the
geometry of the power plant play a vital role.
Ehrnberg Solutions AB will buy experimental
material up to 30kkr.
The thesis is to provide the answer to the following
• what is the optimal geometry and dimensions of a
1:500 prototype and what materials should be
• how much energy will this prototype be able to
produce and store (short time storage)?
• how will the energy storage function during hours
or days? How should this functionality be used?
The thesis can be performed individually or by two
students. The student/s will have a supervisor at the
university, and at Ehrnberg Solutions AB. To qualify,
you should have knowledge about physics, fluid
mechanics and an interest in renewable energy is
advantageous. Final report shall be in English.
